Peak shaving: cutting off consumption spikes with your battery
With peak shaving, you use your battery to flatten short, high consumption spikes. This is particularly useful during cooking, EV charging, or when heavy devices switch on.
Typical sources of peaks
- Induction cooktop, oven, and dishwasher running at once.
- An EV charger ramping up to full power.
- A heat pump turning on alongside other large loads.
Configuring peak shaving in Leafy Energy
- Enable the “Peak shaving” mode in your battery profile.
- Set a maximum grid import limit (for example 10 kW).
- Configure a minimum buffer (for example 30%) that you always want to keep.
- Leafy Energy automatically supplements consumption from the battery whenever you exceed the limit.
Result
In the charts you will see sharp spikes turning into a flatter consumption curve. In some markets this directly affects your grid charges or contracted capacity.
