Home battery + EV: cooperation instead of competition
In many homes a battery and EV charger share the same grid connection. Leafy Energy helps these two work together intelligently.
Goals of this use case
- Charge the EV as cheaply as possible.
- Protect the main fuse from overload.
- Use the home battery as a “shock absorber”.
Strategy
- EV charging gets priority in the cheapest hours.
- The home battery covers peaks when EV charging overlaps with other loads.
- In extremely expensive hours, EV charging can be throttled while the battery provides part of the power.
Configuring this in Leafy Energy
- Flag the EV charger as a flexible high-load device.
- Attach a charging profile (for example “on weekdays, reach at least 80% SOC by 07:00”).
- Enable “Battery assist for EV charging” in your battery profile.
In demos you can show how the EV still reaches its target while the grid peak is kept under control through smart cooperation between battery and charger.
