When the annual statement is disappointing
In this example, a fictional Leafy Energy household has to pay extra at year-end. Nothing went wrong technically; the energy year was simply different than expected.
What happened?
- A heat pump was added halfway through the year.
- Both adults started working from home more often.
- Deposits were not adjusted early enough to reflect the higher usage.
What do we learn from the annual statement?
- Charts clearly show an increase in consumption from the winter months onwards.
- The Leafy Energy app highlights that deposits were structurally too low.
Plan for next year
- The deposit is increased to a more realistic level.
- Smart schedules are enabled for the heat pump and EV charging.
- The household receives monthly alerts if their trend starts drifting again.
In training, this scenario shows how to turn a “negative surprise” into a concrete improvement plan.
