Extension cords are handy, but not a permanent solution
Extension cords and power strips are meant for temporary use. If misused, they can overheat or even cause fires. This article provides general tips to avoid that.
Do’s
- Use grounded extension cords where grounded sockets are available.
- Fully unwind cable reels, especially for higher loads.
- Check regularly for damage and replace cords with cracks or kinks in the insulation.
Don’ts
- Do not connect heavy loads (EV chargers, home batteries, space heaters) via standard extension cords.
- Avoid daisy-chaining multiple power strips.
- Do not run cables under carpets or doors where they can be pinched.
Leafy Energy context
- Use solid, properly installed fixed wiring for smart chargers and batteries.
- In the demo we show visual examples of “good” and “bad” setups to train users.
