Safety before automation
Connecting devices to dynamic tariffs is powerful, but it must be done safely and responsibly. This checklist helps ensure optimisation never comes at the expense of comfort or safety.
Technical safety
- Use certified smart plugs for high-power devices only.
- Verify that your circuit and main fuse can handle the combined load.
- Have fixed installations (chargers, heat pumps) wired by certified installers.
Functional safety
- Ensure critical devices (fridge, medical devices) are never switched off automatically.
- Include a maximum duration for “everything-off” scenarios.
- Always test flows first with simulation or limited, low-risk actions.
Household communication
- Explain to household members what Leafy Energy does so they are not surprised by, for example, a heater turning off.
- Use notifications to surface important actions (“Boiler switched off due to Leafy price threshold”).
In the Leafy Energy demo, this checklist can be shown as a “best practice” panel, reinforcing that dynamic energy is not just clever but also safe and predictable.
