Energy taxes: an overview
On your Leafy Energy invoice you’ll see not only the price charged by Leafy Energy, but also several taxes and levies. These are set by governments and grid operators and apply to all suppliers.
The three main categories
- Energy tax: a tax per kWh (and potentially per m³ of gas) designed to influence consumption.
- Government levies and climate surcharges: additional fees used for measures such as sustainability and grid reinforcement.
- VAT: a percentage applied to your consumption costs, other taxes, and fixed charges.
What does Leafy Energy do with this?
Leafy Energy collects these amounts on behalf of the government and passes them on one-to-one. In the app and on the invoice, they are shown as separate line items so you can see clearly how much of your bill is tax.
Because Leafy Energy uses dynamic tariffs, your usage-based costs can fluctuate, but the tax structure itself remains clear and consistent.
