Access control in your smart home: who can control what?

Not everyone needs access to everything

In a Leafy Energy household, several family members may be active. It is not always desirable for everyone to control all devices and settings.

Example roles

• Administrator: can add devices, change integrations, and edit automations.
• Household member: may trigger scenes and change simple settings (such as comfort mode).
• Guest: may only trigger a limited set of actions such as lighting scenes.

Leafy Energy in practice

In the Leafy Energy demo, we highlight the concept of role-based access even though the roles themselves are fictional. The message is that not everyone needs full control.

Best practices

• Use individual accounts instead of one shared login.
• Document who is an admin, especially in demo and test environments.
• Regularly verify that ex-residents or ex-employees no longer have access.
