What do we mean by backup power?
Backup power is the electricity that remains available when your connection to the public grid fails. Leafy Energy uses your home battery to keep critical loads running for a limited time.
Normal mode vs backup mode
- Normal mode: your home is connected to the grid; the battery charges and discharges based on prices and consumption.
- Backup mode: the grid goes down; part of your installation runs in “island mode” on the battery.
How Leafy Energy supports backup
- Detects outages through the inverter, smart meter, or voltage sensors.
- Switches to a predefined backup profile containing only critical loads.
- Adjusts charging/discharging to maximise availability rather than savings.
Good to know
Not every installation supports islanding. That’s why Leafy Energy lets you mark whether a site has a backup-capable setup or uses storage only for optimisation.
In demos you can highlight this with a simple “Backup capable: yes/no” toggle and a short animation of the switchover.
