How does Leafy Energy know the power is out?
Reliable backup requires fast and robust detection of grid outages. Leafy Energy therefore uses multiple signals at once.
Signals used for outage detection
- Voltage measurement: the inverter or gateway notices the grid voltage dropping to zero.
- Smart meter: notifications about supply interruptions.
- Communication: loss of connectivity with the grid operator or backend services.
Delay and hysteresis
- Leafy Energy waits a short period (for example 1–2 seconds) to avoid treating very short dips as full outages.
- In case of doubt, it enters a warning state and prepares to switch into backup mode.
Visualisation in the app
The UI shows three states: Grid OK, Unstable, and Outage. In the “Unstable” state you already receive tips to prepare critical loads, such as switching off non-essential devices.
