How does the switching process work step by step?

The switching process in 5 steps

Switching to Leafy Energy is largely digital and automated. This is what the process typically looks like.

Step 1: Sign up with Leafy Energy

You enter your address, usage profile, and preferences. We immediately show an indicative cost estimate based on dynamic tariffs.

Step 2: Data exchange with the grid operator

We request your connection details from the grid operator, so we know exactly which meter(s) and contracts are active at your address.

Step 3: Terminating your old supplier

In most cases, Leafy Energy automatically terminates your old contract. If you have a custom business contract, you may need to take action yourself.

Step 4: Start date and first meter reading

You receive a confirmation with the date on which Leafy Energy becomes your new supplier. Around that date we ask you for meter readings (or read your smart meter).

Step 5: Starting with dynamic energy

From the start date onwards, you’ll see live usage, dynamic hourly prices, and any automations you’ve configured in the app.

At every step you receive a clear email so you always know where you are in the switching process.
