Being prepared for outages with Leafy Energy
Beyond price optimisation, Leafy Energy can support emergency scenarios such as grid outages or planned load shedding. This blueprint describes how to keep critical devices powered.
Critical vs non-critical loads
- Critical: fridge/freezer, basic lighting, router/modem, necessary medical devices.
- Non-critical: entertainment, decorative lighting, non-essential outlets.
How this blueprint works
- Leafy Energy detects that an outage mode is active (via grid operator signal or manual toggle).
- When activated:
- The home battery switches to backup mode.
- Non-critical plug groups are switched off.
- Only critical circuits remain powered as long as the battery allows.
- Once the grid is back:
- Non-critical loads are brought online in a controlled sequence.
- Leafy returns to its normal price-driven profile.
Demo visualisation
- A dashboard tile “Emergency mode active” with remaining battery runtime.
- A list showing which devices are still powered and which are disabled.
- An event log of what happened during the outage.
This blueprint shows that Leafy Energy is not just a savings tool, but also a way to increase energy resilience and safety at home.
