How does Leafy Energy talk to your home battery?
Home batteries speak many different “languages”. Leafy Energy translates these protocols into a unified energy model so dashboards, automations, and calculations work the same everywhere.
Local protocols
- Modbus TCP/RTU: common in inverters and industrial-style batteries.
- MQTT: widely used in home automation and Home Assistant setups.
- mDNS/zeroconf discovery: to automatically discover devices on your LAN.
Cloud APIs
- REST APIs with OAuth2 or API tokens.
- Webhook integration for status updates and events (such as “battery almost full”).
Leafy Energy as a “translator”
Regardless of protocol, batteries are mapped onto the same core fields inside Leafy Energy: state of charge, maximum power, capacity, and charge/discharge limits. This keeps charts and smart-charging algorithms consistent.
